I made this little bag last weekend, using remnantsof ochre canvas and bits and bobs I had in the studio – It’s a birthday present for my brother. He’s a T.V cameraman – this little bag is to store his metal clamps so they don’t escape and roll around the floor of his van! Rather pleased with it, I fancy making a big version for me!

In The Making Aprons – online shop open

It’s been a long time coming … but my own In The Making – Aprons online shop is now open, find it at in.the making.uk
The final kick up the butt came from doing the PR Despatch tutorials, learning that a website/shop is the professional way of expressing my brand values and aesthetics and improves SEO to my products – they also point out that press/media features usually say ‘available from Etsy’ and may not even mention In The Making – Aprons … I also know Etsy shows all sorts of other aprons distracting from my own products. Etsy is great, I won’t be dropping it, but it’s a vast crowded platform with an ever increasing number of extra fees for sellers, so it will be good to give In The Makers – Aprons a wider reach.
Re-photos with new lights
Waiting for good light for taking photos in the studio is so frustrating! I bought some softbox lights to see if that would help, it does help a bit, I took some really nice pictures last week… but I think the real answer to the problem is a new camera!
Follow the Thread on Folksy
I’ve just opened a new shop on Folksy, called ‘Follow the Thread’. It stocks handmade kids aprons, t-shirts with handstitched appliqué designs, Christmas decorations, textile jewellery… things I made for my original Folksy shop (A Dog Like Sparky) and for school summer fairs and ‘making experiments’… which have been in stored away while I concentrated on the ‘In The Making – Aprons’ shops. Listed 17 items so far, more to come!

Joined ‘From Britain With Love’…
Last week I was invited to join From Britain With Love, a blog and directory promoting ethical UK makers, flower growers and creative courses. Founder Laura, an ex magazine editor, explains the ethos,
“It’s all about buying less, but buying better. Buying close to home. Treading lightly on the planet we all share. Supporting one another in our creativity. Together we really can be the change we wish to see in the world.”
As well as being a source of beautiful things, the blog features and making tutorials are full of inspiration, generating a lovely creative community.
