‘Little Red Hen’ – toddler tee

All cut out, ready to position and sew. Twenty piece design- it’s all those little letters! I did this design for the ‘Little Red Hen’ Storysack title picture a while ago and decided it was too nice not to use again. I tightened up the shapes a bit, especially the letters.LittleRedHenPieces

‘Kitty’ t-shirt Illustration

KittyILLUSTRATION

Still pretty uncomfortable sitting at the computer after the operation (11 days ago now) but finished this illustration today, for the ‘kitty’ t-shirts on Folksy, in short sessions. Trying to get a vintagey feel, very pleased with the shoes (Laurel says she wants them)!

Pirate t-shirt illustration

I’ve been working on this drawing for a week on and off – it’s been a bit tricky because I had an operation on Thursday and I can’t sit up for long periods. But I was so keen to get on with this idea to update the t-shirt images on Folksy by introducing some illustration. It’s also a good way to get me drawing more regularly: I’ve had so much inspiration from my Pinterest boards , now I need to actually put it into action! Bit rusty, and I also have to bear in mind that the picture mustn’t overpower the t-shirt.

Puppet Theatre

Finished making a puppet theatre to go in a new Storysack ‘Each Peach Pear Plum’. I managed to make it without buying anything – it’s made entirely from leftover bits of fabric from other projects, recycled fabric and ribbon- which is always a good feeling. And great to find another excuse to use ric rac!

New Sparky Apron

I’ve been working on this apron for a few weeks, after seeing a picture of a baker wearing one similar. It’s loose around the body and no neck tie. I saw the fabric in Rolls & Rems and it seemed just the thing for this new shape. James and I took photos of the new aprons today at his studio in Greenwich….then we went for lunch, amazing Thai soup in Greenwich Covered Market!

New Sparky apron collection

I’ve started a new apron collection on the Folksy shop, called ‘Artisan’, I put three up today. They are designed with function and style in mind, for craftspeople, technicians and designers (but pretty good for home use too). This is all about building A Dog Like Sparky a distinctive brand.

A new addition to the Storysacks family.

I finished putting together this storysack for the school Storysack Library yesterday. It’s for ‘So Much’ by Trish Cooke, with really lovely illustrations by Helen Oxenbury.

I spent my summer holiday ’embroidering’ this little chap’s hair, using knitting yarn and sewing thread. Finally got round to finishing the romper suit and cloth sack this week.

I will really miss him sitting on my desk but he will be loved so much by the children and teachers!

Fundraising Cushions for Storysacks

CushionMontageNov13

I finally got round to photographing these cushions yesterday, and putting them on Folksy today. They are made from graded t-shirt logos from Mini Boden: I did the original designs for them. The design director gave me the samples with some fabrics, to make some ‘stuff’ to sell to raise funds for the school Storysacks Library.

At Last!

I finally finished the Peace At Last storysack on Thursday and it was out on loan straight away on Friday! The bear is very cuddly indeed, I’m particularly pleased with the knitted dressing gown. The printing on the bird whistle bag was an interesting experiment (see my last post).

Inkjet fabric printing experiment!

I finally got round to giving this a go. Basically it’s a sheet of cotton fabric (poplin weight) with a paper backing. You just print out your design or photo etc – it dries really quickly – rinse it (actually no ink came off anyway)- wait for it to dry – peel off the paper backing – iron. I used it for a little bag for wooden bird whistles (Storysacks) – the box had broken so I scanned the information, tidied it up in Photoshop and printed it out on the fabric, cut them out and sewed the pieces onto the bag fabric. I’m really pleased with the quality of the result, I’ll definitely use it  in future. I need to do a few washing tests next – it says hand wash or dry clean.
