Well made, durable, craft and work aprons for makers.
Each apron is crafted with meticulous attention to detail and finish. I pre-wash all my fabrics, to reduce the chance of shrinkage and improve colourfastness in the finished apron – it’s then dried outside in the fresh air, flapping like sails, in the wind! The fabric is given a good press before laying out and pinning the pattern pieces, ready to cut out. Turnings are measured, pressed and stitched, thick turnings are soundly bashed thinner and smoother with a hammer, and all the thread ends are hand sewn into the garment.
I wear an apron every day, protecting my clothes from threads, fluffs, ink, watercolour paint, glue, and food preparation – Watching other people’s skill and craft sparks new ideas and specialist features for my apron designs. Inspiration also comes from fabric finds, vintage work-wear and old photographs of working people.
